The WBA has both junior (VJBL) and senior (Big V) teams competing in what’s known as “Representative” basketball. These “Venom” teams take a more focused approach with an emphasis on advancing to the highest possible level of play. Junior teams competing in the VJBL’s highest grade (VC) are competing in one of the world’s highest rated junior standards. Our senior teams battle it out in the semi-professional Big V league requiring significant dedication and professionalism from all concerned.
Our Venom teams represent what is effectively an ‘all-star team’ made up of the best we have to offer from our local clubs. Selection in a Venom team is a privilege and not a right. Places on teams are hard won. The WBA’s mission is to provide the best possible coaching and the best possible support for our representative Venom players as they strive for excellence.

These two clubs, the Warrandyte Redbacks and the Park Orchards Steelers, both compete on Saturdays in the EDJBA. This level of basketball (referred to as “Domestic”) is a locally-based, grass-roots level of the sport. A fun, participation focus is the aim. Bringing the enjoyment of participating in a team sport is what it’s all about. Learning the game, how to become a good teammate and so on. There are many grades of play here so there is a level for everyone.
Starting with Under 8’s and going all the way to Under 18’s participation in this league can be either just a bunch of healthy, social fun or at the same time – if you’re so inclined – players can seek to improve and develop their game. Teams competing in the EDJBA’s A-Grade are competing at a good level of junior basketball.

The WBA provides Warrandyte and its surrounding suburbs with friendly basketball development groups for young children and their families wanting to get involved in basketball.
Redback Rookies is our introductory skills development program for children aged 4.5 to 7 years old. Our sessions are run by experienced coaches who will introduce our future players to passing, dribbling and shooting skills before they venture into competitive basketball.
Basketball is a great way for your children to get active, socialise with other young kids keen to play the game and learn new skills – all within a fun and safe environment.
If your child is aged 4.5 to 7 years old and has not played before, or is not ready for full scale competition, join our Redback Rookies Program. SIGN UP.
